FFAR rocket motors : FZ67 (fixed wings) or FZ68 (rotary wings)

FZ67 and FZ68 rocket motors are 4 Folding-Fin Aerial Rockets (FFAR). Compared to the early FFAR rocket motor Mk4 or Mk40, FZ67 (for fixed wings aircraft) or FZ68 (for rotary wings) has a longer tube and a more performing non-corrosive double base solid propellant grain.

  • FZ67 rocket motor has been especially designed for use on fixed wings aircraft.
  • FZ68 is very similar to the rocket motor FZ67, but for use on rotary wings aircraft. FZ68 rocket motor also produces a higher spin rate to compensate for the effects of wind, downwash and gravity drop.

Both rocket motors, FZ67 and FZ68, are compatible with all FZ rocket launchers and all types of warheads available in Thales Belgium portfolio.

The igniter of these rocket motors has a HERO safe electronic RF filter and EMI filter to protect against electromagnetic radiation (no risk of accidental ignition).

As for all FZ rocket components, the minimum shelf life for FZ67 or FZ68 rocket motor is 10 years under normal storage specification (i.e. temperature between 10°C and 30°C and hygrometry according to Thales Belgium specification).
