After the successful high altitude trials of the Light Combat helicopter (LCH) at Leh forward operating base in September 2016, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is now working on integrating 70mm rocket system on the indigenous on the LCH.

Pre-production helicopter TD-3 fired a number of FZ 70 mm (2.75-inch) rockets during the firing trials in spring 2016 to acquire certification on LCH.

The LCH made its maiden flight in May 2010 and has been developed after the Indian Armed Forces felt a strong lack of an attack helicopter during the 1999 Kargil War. The LCH is a derivative of the HAL Dhruv (ALH - Advance Light Helicopter), and has been primarily designed for high-altitude warfare.
